About Eugene Christian School

History and School Organization

History

Eugene Christian School has a long tradition in Eugene where it was founded in 1955. At that time there were no Christian schools operating in Eugene. A group of visionaries representing several churches under the leadership of Walter Huss, founded the school known then as Emerald Empire Christian School. The school met in several churches before the property was purchased in 1957 on West Amazon – the site of our current location. Since the inception of the school, ECS has had only five principals. Our present administrator, Susan Baurer, started as a teacher at the school in 1972.

In 2005, ECS celebrated 50 years of providing quality Christian education. Nearly 400 people came to the ECS for our 50th anniversary celebration. Many alumni, former ECS parents and past staff were reunited. It was exciting to hear their many stories of how ECS impacted their lives. As we envision our future, we look forward to our next 50 years.
